Thurs Sept 3:  Hurst Marina to Ottawa (R16-9)

Beautiful, cool morning as we left Hurst Marina. This was just before we started seeing so many houses just outside of Ottawa.
We saw a stunning Dutch canal boat, The Parnasia, for the third time headed the opposite direction. We saw them first docked at Kirkfield and then again in Campbellford.  We assume they must have gone all the way up the Rideau to Ottawa and are on their way back home now.

Now that we’re only about ten miles from Ottawa there have been lots of upscale houses along the shore all pretty much on top of each other.

At the first lock we reached (Long Island #16), we were told there was work being done on the dam, so there would be a two and half hour wait. It was a beautiful day so we got out our lawn chairs and made a snack.  In the end we only ended up waiting a half hour.

After leaving Hartwells Lock, there was a really pretty stretch of parkway and bike paths on either side of us with the bikes moving a lot faster than the boat

We waited for the traffic at the Pretoria Avenue Lift Bridge to stop for about 20 minutes. We really did feel guilty about stopping the traffic this time because we were the only boat going under: https://photos.app.goo.gl/9qbdJXExvJn96kr46
