Thankfully, we only had one lock to do today, where we had spent the night. The river wound around between open wetlands and then narrower areas with a lot of lake houses. We were trying to beat the storms that were called for in the afternoon.
We’ve spotted lots of cranes in the wetlands.
So far we’ve agreed that we prefer the Rideau Canal System to the Trent Severn Waterway. Both are beautiful, but the locks are much smaller and go faster on the Rideau. Each lock seems to be about the same size on the Rideau, and the lock walls are much cleaner. When there is anything at all on the walls it is mostly moss and plants as opposed to the slime on the Trent Severn. Someone at Chaffey’s lock told me it was because they keep the water down at night.
Okay. So it’s possible I’m running out of blog material when I’m posting comparative pictures of lock wall cleanliness :)))))))
Hahaha. But we’re on our way to Ottawa, so hopefully I’ll have some better matierial for you…
