Sat & Sun Aug 29 & 30:  Upper Brewers Lock to Chaffey’s Lock (R42-37)

We had an hour and a half of absolutely beautiful cruising this morning with the river taking us between lakes.  Some of the lakes are natural but many are flooded valleys.

There wasn’t much width to pass through this bridge that was under construction.
This is a first, a half Canadian, half American flag. Ironic, considering what’s going on between our countries right now.

We had good timing again as there were three boats just finishing locking down so we were able to start up the flight of four almost immediately.  And then some more beautiful cruising and then two more locks.

We got the last spot with power at the top of Chaffey’s lock after some maneuvering with the help of the dock master.  Unlike all the other locks so far on the Rideau, it was very busy with a couple of trawlers like ours but mainly pontoons and bow riders with locals docking for the day.

We had dinner at what was originally a private home and then a lodge and now exclusively a  restaurant and event venue.

Aug 30: There was rain and thunderstorms, so we stayed put, but all but two other small boats moved on.

We have met so many friendly Canadians along the way, and they’re nice to us even when they find out we’re from the U.S.  Today, both Peter and I chatted separately for quite some time with a couple from Ottowa who gave us lots of information and guidance.  We hope we’ll run into them again along the Rideau.
