Wed & Thurs, Aug 5 & 6:  Hillis Bay to Go Home River Anchorage

We wound our way back through the narrow small craft channel.  It was much more relaxing this time now that we’re getting used to the rocks being so close.

A lot of the fir trees are shaped this way as a result of the prevailing northwestern wind.

Peter found us another great Anchorage on the Go Home River. Stories differ about why it’s named that. One is that the name originates from the Ojibwe language describing the waterway as a direct path or route to return home. Another links 19th-century lumberjacks and steamship operators whose crews would drive their timber down the river to Georgian Bay, finish their work, get paid at the inlet, and finally “go home.”

Beaver damn right next to the boat in the anchorage.

We had the anchorage to ourselves. All we heard was a float plane far above and a fishing boat from one of the cottages.

Aug 6:  Another three rafted boats joined us in the anchorage, but not too close. I took another kayaking trip.

Closer to the beaver dam in the kayak
Peter caught a smallmout bass!
I took a sip to cool off after my paddle.
