Wed & Thurs June 24 & 25: Wilton Point to Trenton ON (Trenton Port City Marina)

June 24:  Usually, dropping and pulling the anchor is my job. Like most trawlers, we have something called a windlass, which is a motorized winch that lifts the heavy chain and anchor. I step on a switch to either lift or drop the anchor and direct Peter to move the boat in the direction of the chain, which takes some of the pressure off the windlass as the anchor is lifted. Today, when we lifted the anchor, there was a huge ball of weeds bigger than the anchor itself. They were just out of my reach to move off, so we had to switch places in order for Peter to get them.

Several spots along the route were narrow and windy, especially under this bridge, where there were two jetties on either side. You can see how close our boat was to the red channel marker.

This may be the most cormorants we’ve seen in one place, but we see them like this frequently. Formally small red rock islands are stained white from their poop.

June 25:  Trenton

We really enjoyed the town of Trenton and the Trenton Marina. The marina facilities are brand new, and the floating docks are superior. Plus, there are fantastic, big, private, clean showers and a very comfortable lounge area with great Wi-Fi to wait in while you do your free laundry.

We took advantage of the many conveniences easily accessible from the marina, including great shopping at the local Metro grocery store. There was everything there you could possibly want. Remnants of the British Empire were evident: napkins are called serviettes; they stocked PG Tips and Yorkshire Gold loose tea, HP sauce, McVitte’s Digestives, and Smarties (which were in the confection aisle vs the candy aisle). At the same time, just like the rest of the places we’ve been in Ontario, all the signs are in English and French, and many of the products are labeled in both languages.

Thank goodness there was a translation on the back, or I wouldn’t have known what I was buying.
Hmm. Tacos de rue? Not quite the same.
