Peter was up early again to check on the fog, which thankfully dissipated even earlier than on Tuesday, so we were able to be underway by 7 AM. We didn’t want to leave much later because we anticipated 11 hours underway. We got lucky with the current, though, and made it in under ten. The predictions for calm seas were accurate once more, although it was decidedly swirlier, which made me seasick when I had to go below, and then the anti-nausea meds made me drowsy. That, on top of getting stuck in an absolute downpour for about an hour, made it a pretty unpleasant day for me. Just as we decided to get out of the rain and navigate from below the rain stopped.

As we were getting ourselves pointed in the right direction again, who should we see but Amy and Doug on the Salty Peanut! They decided to go all the way to Atlantic Highlands with us instead of stopping in Manasquan.

The Sandy Hook anchorage was just beautiful. We were right next to the beach at Sandy Hook National Recreation Area, the Coast Guard, and the former Army officer barracks, which are now rented out to nonprofits. Unfortunately, the Salty Peanut’s windlass jammed, so they weren’t able to anchor with us. Happily, they were able to find a slip at the last minute at the municipal marina.
