Beautiful, cool, calm, glassy morning to start the day.

We left the Cheesecake Bay and started down the Elk River. Two special ops navy boats passed us – one with an American and Japanese flag and the other an American and Swiss flag.  Our thought was visiting dignitaries?

Our originally planned destination was Delaware City, but the season hasn’t started there, and they’re not open regularly on Mondays. By the time they called us back, we had made reservations at Lums Pond State Park.  Upon arrival, the temperature had soared, and I was having PTSD from our trip up from Jacksonville.  My brain just about shuts off once it’s much over 85°, and it was 95° and fumey while we were pumping out and docking.  Bless her heart, our dock hand, Chelsea, assisted us without the benefit of a hat or sunglasses, and then she dashed to our slip to help us dock.  Good thing she and Peter had functioning brains, because all I was good for was throwing lines.

The marina advertised that they were “nestled within the natural beauty and serenity of Lums Pond State Park the world’s finest floatation dock system.” So like you could go to Monte Carlo, Singapore, or Vancouver, and they don’t have docks like this.  They’re just flocking to Bear, DE to see how they did their world-class docking system.  There were certainly floating docks, but not all of them were doing such a good job floating.

“…premier dock hand service [I’ll give the poor girl that for sure], ships store with groceries.” Peter saw Twinkies, Doritos and Pepsi.  I said, so no fruits or vegetables? and he said well I’m sure there’s cornstarch in the Twinkies :)))

“Immaculate shower and laundry service.”…umm…not so much.  I guess it was clean. ish.  Someone who did that write-up sure had a sense of humor.

It finally cooled in the evening, and we sat up top after dinner.  A beautiful snowy egret landed right next to us.  I like to think it was a good omen for our trip.
